a few Ideas, a lot of truth.
Its the New Year and Im Not ready Yet.
I guess this is why people make resolutions. It’s like when you run a long race, and you keep running; your feet keep hitting the ground one after another for mile after mile even though you feel like you’re going to fall over. And then the moment you stop, you become immobile—you physically can’t get started again.
And that brings me to my current state. Immobile. (Read More)

Raising Devoted Readers - Why reading matters and and how to get kids onboard.
From policy makers, to teachers, down to individual readers everyone seems to be lowering the standards when it comes to reading. Kids today are reading at three grade levels below what kids were reading 100 years ago. And in general, kids in America will read less every year they grow older. With all the access to literature and leaps in technology, how can we regress so deeply? The biggest culprit I see crippling my kids’ love of reading is the smorgasbord of mental junk food being thrown at them: hollow books and too many screens. Entertainment is fast, cheap, and easy, and it doesn't seem worth the effort to slog through a classic novel. (Read More)

The parks my kids ask to go to most often are the parks where they spend the littlest time on the playground, and especially the parks where there is water close by. My boys can sense a creek from a mile away. No swingset can compare to mud, sticks, smashed cans and other curious litter discoveries at the creekside. (Read More)

The Kitchen Table - A Horror Story
I have my fantasies the same as any woman. Sure, they’ve changed over the years. The fantasy of an exotic vacation getaway has been traded for the fantasy of going to the bathroom without any little hands trying to pick the lock. The fantasy for love at home is replaced with the hope that we can get through the latest brawl without a trip to the ER. And the fantasy of a Pinterest home, complete with white trim, custom floors, and that perfect paint color has been replaced with the dream of a clean kitchen table. (Read More)

Boss of the Week
This brilliant idea is courtesy of my friend, Sara Sawaya. It has changed our wailing and warring ways here in the Hobbs home!
Take a look at those four bruisers in the picture. As different as they look physically, they are just as different in personality. We have a mix of introverts and extroverts, some impulsivity and some anxiety. (Read More)
